A DJ, is a person who mixes recorded music in real time. Originally, the “disc” in “disc jockey” referred to vinyl records, but now “DJ” is used as an all-encompassing term to describe someone who mixes recorded music from any sources, including CDs, and digital audio files on a digital media player, controller and/or laptop. DJs often perform for a live audience at a club or other venue or for a broadcast audience, but DJs also create mixes that are recorded for later sale and distribution and/or for playback during DJ sets. DJs use equipment that can play at least two sources of recorded music simultaneously and mix them together using a DJ mixer. This allows the DJ to create seamless transitions between recordings and develop unique mixes of songs. Often, this involves aligning the beats of the music sources so their rhythms do not clash when they are played together. Working with our experienced instructors, we teach all of the skills necessary to start your career as a DJ. We teach skills such as music selection, beat matching and cueing, as well as turntablism (or scratch DJing). We have multiple DJ rigs and a collection of controllers, players and turntables so that students can experience working on different formats.
